I still remember my very first plot twist like it was yesterday. My mom had brought home this funny-looking book about a boy with an absurdly long title. She was sure it was going to be a huge hit but I was kind of on the fence. Why would I want to read yet another book about a boy (gross). But it had magic and I was always a sucker for fantasy books – even when I was 10. I stayed up all night reading with a flashlight under my covers to get to the end. I was hooked.
Today, I bring you my very first and a few recent faves where the plot twist was like WOAH. I’m not sure what the statue of limitations is on spoilers, but I’ll keep them to myself just in case. In chronological order of twistiness:

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins
Allegiant by Veronica Roth
The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas
Warcross by Marie Lu

hahaha The statute of limitations on spoilers. You crack me up. I’ll never forget reading Harry Potter when I was young too. I was a little late to the party but it was still such a memorable experience.

Omg yes, the Harry Potter books introduced me to the concept of plot twists! How could I forget the twist about Sirius’s identity? Cedric Diggory’s fate in the Triwizard Tournament? Waiting anxiously to discover whether or not Snape had an explanation for what he did in book six? Yep. Plot twists for years!
