Oh, how I love a long book – something you can really spend time with, explore the worlds, get emotionally invested with characters…and then later devastated when one inevitably dies. I’m not sure if this comes from regular story time where Lord of the Rings was read to me as a youngster, but I have loved a chunky book as long as I can remember. These are some of my most beastly. (Note: If it’s in a series, I’m only including the longest one I have read!)
Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness @ 594 pages
The Sea King by C.L. Wilson @ 608 pages
The Cider House Rules by John Irving @ 612 pages
Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor @ 625 pages
Broken Dove by Kristen Ashley @ 666 pages
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas @ 707 pages
Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer @ 758 pages
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy @ 865 pages
Isolation by Bex-Chan @ 1,053 pages
The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon @ 1,456 pages
XOXO
The Fiery Cross ended up #1 on my list. Anna Karenina took me so long to read!
AK was so long! I don’t know if I would have stuck with it if it hadn’t been a “school book,” but I’m sure glad that I did. The newish audio version is so lovely.
Those are some chunky books! I like your idea of only including the longest in the series, that would have brought more diversity to my list.

It didn’t really start out that way, but then it was pretty much all Outlander! ๐
I’m surprised none of the Harry Potter books aren’t on your list anywhere! The Outlander books are super intimidating, as much as they are popular and people rave about them I’m not sure I will ever convince myself to get around to them.
You know, they’re really fab on audio. I’ve been rereading that way before new seasons of the show come out so I’m kind of in the loop with what’s supposed to be going on.
I’ve avoided Diana Gabaldon’s books because there’s so many of them and they’re ALL doorstoppers. I wish I had that kind of time!
If my mom and sister didn’t absolutely adore them, I’m not sure I ever would have picked them up either, especially since historical is super not my genre and they are beyond beastly. I do quite love them though.
ACOWAR and Breaking Dawn are also on my list this week. I would like to get started on the Outlander series but that series is enormous! ๐
Davina Porter is a brilliant narrator. Even though the audios are massive too, they don’t seem quite as intimidating as the books.
I havenโt read any of these but A Court of Wings and Ruin and Dreams of Gods and Monsters are both on my TBR.
