Top Ten Tuesday: Novellas/Short Stories

July 17, 2018 Comments : 15

I love short stories. There is so much craft required for a successful and succinct bit of writing. Having taken a lot of writing classes, anyone who can pull off an amazing short story is like a snow leopard. Sure, they exist, but do they really? (Hint: I’m so not a snow leopard. ) Also, my inner lazy-yet-competitive girl loves being able to read a whole thing start to finish in one go. Here are a few faves, and a few that I am dying to check out.

The Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo
Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman
The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas

Paris for One by Jojo Moyes
I know I just used this for Travel Bug, but the titular shortie is just that good!
One More Thing by B.J. Novak
Summer Days and Summer Nights by Stephanie Perkins
Check out my recent review for why I loved this one so much.

From the TBR stacks:

Meet Cute by Jennifer L. Armentrout
The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter
Richard Armitage is one of the narrators for this. Reason enough right there. *Swoon*
The Merry Spinster by Mallory Ortberg
Purely because I loved Texts from Jane Eyre so much.

and lastly, a book that is very important to me…

The Complete Fairy Tales of Brothers Grimm

XOXO

The Language of Thorns! I can’t believe I forgot to include it on my list. It was hands down one of my favorite books of 2017, and I’m already super-excited to reread it. Summer Days & Summer Nights was super-cute. I like the winter version too, but for me this summer one is better. I really need to read The Bloody Chamber and Fragile Things. Great list!

Summer Days and Summer Nights has so many really good authors to it. I should add it to my TBR, even though I don’t really read too many short stories. These are good choices!

I’ve only actually read The Assassin’s Blade and The Language of Thorns, short stories aren’t usually my thing but I loved both of those!
